Our bodies change as we grow older—especially the joints…
A stroke occurs and muscles weaken from lack of use…
Repetitive injury from our work or our play causes pain…
All these conditions, and many others, create a need for help from CMC’s comprehensive Orthopeadic program. Our highly trained team of medical professionals specialize in the diagnosis, treatment, rehabilitation and prevention of musculoskeletal injury and disease, including orthopaedic surgery, sports medicine, and rehabilitation. They work together to provide you with state-of-the-art diagnostic and treatment services through a collaborative team approach.
A Comprehensive Program
Orthopaedic Services is a unique program offering a comprehensive treatment continuum of care within a highly integrated health care delivery network. Our goal is simple: to return our patients to normal function as quickly and safely as possible.
To reach this goal, the medical professionals enlist a comprehensive, leading edge approach to the prevention, assessment, treatment and rehabilitation of musculoskeletal injuries.
Our highly trained team of surgeons, nurses, physical therapists, rehabilitation specialists and various medical support personnel works with each patient and their primary care physician to develop a treatment plan specifically for that patient. Both our In-patient and Out-patient orthopaedic programs are well respected for their quality of care and outstanding results.
Joint Replacement & Reconstruction
Physicians on the CMC team who perform joint reconstruction surgery have particular expertise in the operating room. When possible, they utilize non-surgical solutions. If surgery is the right solution, our physicians have the training and skill you can trust.
Taking care of a severely injured or diseased joint is more than applying state-of-the-art surgical techniques. It is the skilled hands-on evaluation and appropriate diagnostic testing that determines the best overall plan of care, remembering of course, that we are not treating a joint, but a human being.
Sports Medicine & Rehabilitation
Service, dedication, and commitment are the guiding principles of the Sports Medicine and Physical Therapy Department. These principles are based on a foundation of promoting optimal community health and patient care.
Our service to the community, like the Black & Blue Clinic for high school athletics, encompasses a wide range of health promotional activities focused on injury prevention, emergency care and wellness education.
Rehabilitation Health Information
The rehabilitation of a patient is an interdisciplinary process with the goal of returning the patient to the highest possible level of independence. The interdisciplinary team consists of the patient, their attending physician, a physiatrist (a rehabilitation physician), nurses, occupational therapists, physical therapists, a social worker and a speech therapist. The patient’s family and friends are always part of the team!
While our Rehabilitation Unit is one of the oldest units in the South Carolina Lowcountry, the size of the program allows individualized focus on each patient. We offer physical rehabilitation for a number of different problems and disease processes including strokes, joint replacement, neurological diseases, orthopeadic problems and respiratory problems.
Podiatry is a branch of medicine that specializes in the diagnosis and treatment of foot disorders. While many conditions of the foot can be treated in an office setting, some conditions require surgery. Our orthopeadic program at Colleton Medical Center includes comprehensive surgery and podiatry treatment in a caring setting.
