Having a baby is one of the most cherished events in a woman’s life. That’s why CMC places comfort and safety at the top of the list of priorities for patients utilizing obstetrical services. The six private rooms available for new moms allow for the whole experience—labor, delivery, recovery, and postpartum—to occur in the same secure environment. While rooming in is encouraged for baby and mom, CMC’s fully equipped nursery welcomes babies so recovering mothers can get some much needed rest.
Using a state-of-the-art fetal monitoring system called Centricity Perinatal (CPN), laboring mothers benefit from unit-wide surveillance improving fetal and maternal safety. A view of baby’s heart tracing or mom’s contraction patterns are always available to the nurses and physicians. Physicians have remote access to the system 24-hours per day which allows up to the minute information on their patients’ progress. The system also provides a single, continuous medical record throughout the patient’s pregnancy. This enhances continuity of care and makes this information instantly available to hospital staff.
Infant security takes high priority at CMC. The entire obstetrical unit is locked and requires authorized access for visitors. Providing an additional level of assurance, the hospital is equipped with an infant security system which instantly alerts the staff to any potential breach of security. Mother and infant are banded at birth which ensures constant identification and a secure link between the two.
While technology plays an important role at CMC, the human touch provided by the skilled and caring staff is just as important. All labor/maternal nurses are experienced RNs who are certified in Advanced Fetal Monitoring by the Association of Women’s Health Obstetric and Neonatal Nurses. They stay up-to-date with current changes in healthcare technology and techniques through hours of continuing education. A certified lactation counselor and childbirth educators are available to support families and work with the nursing team to provide the highest quality of care to parents and newborns.
Annually, CMC hosts a Women’s Health Day in the fall to provide important screenings and health information. Digital mammography and bone density screenings for women are also available at CMC.
