In partnership with the Walterboro Police Department and the Colleton County Sheriff’s Office, Colleton Medical Center will host Crush the Crisis prescription drug take back event from 10 am to noon on Saturday, October 26.
Last year – for the first time since 2018 – there was a decrease in national drug overdose deaths in the United States according to the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention. However, prescription drug misuse remains a public health crisis in the United States.
“Colleton Medical Center is committed to doing our part to eradicate opioid misuse and addiction,” said Jimmy Hiott, Colleton Medical Center CEO. “We encourage our community to safely and anonymously drop off unused and expired medication for proper disposal at our collection site on Saturday, October 26.”
All medications will be accepted; however, needles, syringes, and lancets will not be accepted. Ointments, lotions, drops, liquid medication in leak-proof containers, vape cartridges without batteries, and pet medication will also be accepted.
Crush the Crisis will take place in Colleton Medical Center’s main parking lot near Robertson Blvd. For more information, visit ColletonMedical.com/events or call (833) 582-1970.
